Leona Ottenheimer was born in the coastal community of Long Harbour, Placentia Bay. The eldest of nine children, Leona was inspired to become an artist by her artistic mother. After high school, she enrolled in the Commercial Art course at the College of Trades & Technology in St. John’s. She later studied Graphic Design at Lawrence College and completed a number of Visual Arts Courses at the University of Windsor in Ontario.
Leona continues to hone her skills by taking part in, facilitating and co-ordinating classes with talented artists and instructors from Newfoundland and across Canada including Gerald Squires, Gordon MacKenzie, Scott Goudie, Barbara Dorey, Michael Whitelaw, Henry Vyfvinkel, Lloyd Pretty, Edwin Matthews, Ed Roche, Mary Nunn, and Diana Dabinett.
